2008 will be an exciting year for Slade
Bloodstock!
Whilst it normally becomes a quieter period this time of year the
Slade Bloodstock team of horses are showing some extremely
encouraging signs. Lee, Anthony & Rob all firmly believe this is by
far the most exciting crop purchased by Slade Bloodstock.
Of the yearlings there were some terrific reports from the breaker
initially which are now being backed up by further glowing reports
from Lee & Anthony Freedman with several of the babies going through
their paces at Markdel.
There are very strong opinions on the Exceed And Excel’s, both the
colt and filly, the Rock Of Gibraltar filly, the Fastnet Rock colt
looks a ready made racehorse, & the Charge Forward looks a very
strong precocious 2yo type.
We have some very nice colts by Commands who normally are not early
2yo’s but will feature at 2 but really make their mark at 3.
Once again we have purchased several staying types that we have
targeted over the past 12 months or so as a dedicated strategy to
target Australia’s major staying races. A colt by Zabeel is about to
head across the Tasman from New Zealand out of a magnificent family,
a Danewin colt out of a Zabeel mare broke in superbly & is a real
athlete, as well as a Reset colt who looks a ringer for the sire
himself. In addition we have a half-brother to Cat’s Fun, WA Derby &
Perth Cup winner now in the hands of Lee, who has all the makings of
a top line stayer of the future.
Of our 2yo’s we have an exciting unraced 2yo about to burst on the
scenes showing very good ability indeed & he’ll add to a couple of
fillies & a couple of colts of the same crop that we believe will be
serious contenders in the major Spring.
Add to this our exciting sprinter Here de Angels has come back
looking at his all time best, he looks a machine this time in. The
slow maturing son of Dehere has continued to form and grow both
physically and mentally each preparation but on looks at the moment
the finished product has arrived.
Even further, the purchase of a tried horse from New Zealand last
month by the name of Red Square adds further excitement and depth to
our stocks in 2008. He’s a 4yo by Danske had 10 starts, won 3 and 3
thirds with the true plus being he is a staying type on both
pedigree and type who has yet to step out beyond 1600 metres. He’s
settled in beautifully at Markdel and will be nominated for the
major staying races in the Spring.
